Privacy Policy

Pigeon Lab ("Pigeon Lab", "we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights under applicable law, including Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

By using our Service at pigeonlab.school, you consent to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information: Your name (display name), email address, and password when you register.
  • Teaching context: Province, default grade level, and preferred language, used to personalize your worksheet generation experience.
  • Worksheet content: The prompts, topics, and instructions you enter to generate worksheets, as well as the generated output you save.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage data: Pages visited, features used, worksheet generation history, and interaction logs (e.g., button clicks, session duration).
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, and referring URLs.
  • Cookies: We use essential session cookies required for authentication. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. See Section 8 for details.

1.3 Information from Third Parties

If you sign in using Google, we receive your name and email address from Google as permitted by your Google account settings. We do not receive your Google password.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account.
  • Provide, operate, and improve the Service, including AI worksheet generation.
  • Personalize the Service based on your teaching context (province, grade, language).
  • Respond to your support requests and communications.
  • Send you service-related notifications (e.g., account updates, policy changes).
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your personal information for behavioral advertising.

3. AI Processing and OpenAI

To generate worksheets, we send your input (topic, grade level, instructions) to OpenAI via their API. This means your worksheet prompts and content are transmitted to OpenAI's servers, which are located in the United States.

Please note:

  • Do not submit personally identifiable information about students (e.g., student names, ID numbers) into the worksheet generator.
  • OpenAI's use of data sent via their API is governed by OpenAI's API data usage policies. OpenAI does not use API data to train their models by default.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

We share your information with the following trusted service providers who assist us in operating the Service. Each provider processes your data only as necessary to perform their functions and is contractually bound to protect it:

5. International Data Transfers

Our service providers are located in the United States. As a result, your personal information is transferred to and processed in the United States, which may not offer the same level of privacy protection as Canada. We take steps to ensure that appropriate contractual safeguards are in place (such as standard contractual clauses) when transferring your data internationally, consistent with PIPEDA requirements.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide the Service. If you request account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 90 days, unless we are required to retain it for longer to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

Generated worksheets you have saved are retained as part of your account data. You may delete individual worksheets at any time through the Service.

7. Your Rights Under PIPEDA

Under Canada's PIPEDA, you have the following rights with respect to your personal information:

  • Right of access: You may request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
  • Right to withdrawal of consent: You may withdraw your consent to our collection or use of your personal information at any time (subject to legal and contractual restrictions). Withdrawing consent may affect our ability to provide the Service.
  • Right to deletion: You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information.
  • Right to complain: You have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (www.priv.gc.ca) if you believe we have not handled your personal information in accordance with PIPEDA.

8. Cookies

We use only strictly necessary cookies — specifically, session authentication cookies set by Supabase to keep you logged in. These cookies are essential to the functioning of the Service and cannot be disabled without affecting your ability to use the platform.

We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party tracking technologies that monitor your behavior across other websites.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is designed for use by educators aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 18. The Service is not designed to be used directly by students. If you believe a child under 18 has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us at privacy@pigeonlab.school so we can promptly delete such information.

10. Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), access controls, and secure credential storage via Supabase Auth.

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you use the Service at your own risk.

11. Links to Third-Party Sites

The Service may contain links to external websites. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a prominent notice in the Service at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
